Meet the Design Team
Have you ever wondered who the talented crafters are who make some of the amazing samples you see on our website and Create and Craft TV? Well here they are – meet the fabulous members of our design team…
I live in Leeds with my very supportive hubby and 4 cats.
I have crafted in one form or another for most of my life, I remember always loving to receive pens, pencils and colouring books for gifts.
I found card making in 2005 when I was very ill and needed something to occupy my mind and hands. In 2006 I had to leave a job I adored because of my health, and crafting got me through this, and many more bad times.
I soon became addicted like we all do and it took over my life, and house. I went from having a little set of drawers for my craft stuff, to having my very own craft room built at the bottom of my garden near where the fairies and unicorns live.
From the moment Create and Craft first started, it has been on my TV keeping me company when I’m in my craft room.
In 2010 I applied to join the My Craft Studio design team, and to my delight I was accepted onto my first ever design team. I can still remember the buzz of seeing my cards on TV for the very first time. I have also been lucky enough to be an on air guest for My Craft Studio on Create and Craft TV.
All these years later I am still on the team and still get excited to see my cards on screen. As the company has grown over the years I have also been lucky enough to be involved in lots of other teams, including Tattered Lace and Rare Earth from the very beginning.
I love lots of different forms of crafting from CD crafting, to die cutting and colouring using alcohol markers, and I love getting inky and stamping. I also do a little bit of machine sewing and cross stitch.
Through crafting I have met some of the nicest people you could wish to know, and have made some life long friends. I love to share my passion for craft with other people online via various social media platforms, but nothing beats sharing hints and tips face to face at live crafting events.
My name is April and I am a mum of 4 teenage daughters. I am a disabled mum who works for the NHS as admin.
I started scrapbooking when I because disabled and had to stop working for social services and got diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I started scrapbooking my daughters baby photos and quickly realised how therapeutic it was so on doing further research I discovered card making and that was 12 years ago! My favourite craft item is my scan n cut or my growing library of dies. I like both for roughly the same reason because they are so versatile and even when I am “blocked” I.e. have little or no crafty mojo, they help me finish my project or give me ideas for different projects, so then I will just pause the project I am working on.
Florals and butterflies are my favourite theme especially as there is such a huge array of dies and designs out there in the crafty world, so I never get bored! My ideal job would be to craft at home for a living especially with being disabled/suffering with anxiety that sometimes makes me not want to leave the house, until then I will continue to enjoy my time on the design team as I see it as such a privilege that I have been given the opportunity to showcase my design ideas with the new and upcoming products.
I have always loved crafting, since I was a child. My Dad was a joiner and my Mum was always knitting so I think it is in the blood. When we went to the local market I used to buy bags of scrap material and make cotton reel gonks. I was always drawing, colouring and constructing things, I remember making marble runs from Easter egg boxes. I made books of activities to do in the car and my grandmother`s friend introduced me to tapestry.
When I went to college, I made wooden pyrography brooches to help with the funds and to keep my dad sweet! I have tried a wide range of crafts but my main crafts at the moment are card and jewellery making. I always have more ideas than I have time to try them all. I love recycling and giving something that other people might throw away another lease of life. I also love kinetic crafts and the pop-up box card is my current favourite.
I have been involved with organising craft activities for children and young people, mostly at church. My role as occupational therapist has enabled me to facilitate craft activities for adults, especially when I worked in a day centre and I have experienced the therapeutic benefits of crafting.
I have learned a lot from programmes such as Create and Craft and I am excited by the massive development of craft tools and materials which has taken crafting to another level. It was while watching Create and Craft programme that I saw Melanie Heaton announce the design team call for Tattered Lace. I went straight to the website and spent the rest of the day preparing my submission. I love, love, love being on the Rare Earth design team because as well as Tattered Lace being a leader in the craft industry being on the team stimulates my creative juices and pushes me to try ideas and techniques I might not otherwise find time to do.
Hi! My name is Debbi, and I am from Manchester, UK.
I have been an avid crafter, well…ever since I can remember, which also came in very handy whilst I was qualifying to be an Early Learning & Childcare Practitioner. I loved taking every opportunity to craft with the children.
I was lucky enough, five years ago, to have been asked to join the Tattered Lace Design Team and enjoy every opportunity it gives me to use their fabulous dies.
My love of paper-crafting has really evolved since I joined the Tattered Lace family and I haven’t looked back since. I now also have a growing love of making paper flowers, using the beautiful Fleurs collections.
Furthermore, this has also enabled me to dip my toe into sharing my crafting fun through various social media platforms as I now have a blog (debbipowelldesigns.blogspot.com), Facebook Group (@debbipowelldesigns) and many of my creative makes can be found on my Pinterest(www.pinterest.co.uk/debbipowelldesi). I am also hoping to establish my YouTube channel in the near future.

My name is Maz, I’ve been crafting for around 2 years. Being fairly new to crafting I am like a kid in a candy store, wanting to try everything. My only problem is I like everything I try lol. I have 1 husband, 1 son, 1 dog and 1 cat and currently live in Doncaster but have lived and worked from London to South Shields with many stops in between. Loving my DT journey with Tattered Lace and I’m excited for future launches as the diverse range of products means I never what to expect next. This makes being part of the DT even more exciting.
I have always enjoyed being creative and have been inspired by all sorts of crafts. I started papercrafting with iris folding about 10 years ago and my crafting sort of evolved from there with decopatch, stamping, mixed media and even hunting for projects to upcycle and craft with.
I’ve been on the Tattered Lace Design Team for just over a year and have really enjoyed the challenges to create for the new launches.
My name is Pat Thompson and I live with my husband David and a rescue dog called Piglet in Thornton-Cleveleys Lancashire. I have always enjoyed crafting in many diferent ways from sewing and knitting to paper crafts and mixed media. I was thrilled when I was choosen to be on the design team, and that year I won first prize for a card I entered in the local flower and produce show as well. I love crafting for all the opportunities to meet lovely people, whether at craft shows or workshops and look forward to what my crafty future holds.
I’m Sandra 53 married for 30 years with 3 grown up children.
I’ve been on the design team for nearly a year, mainly working on Rare Earth Stamp samples.
First started Crafting when I was 9 , my nan taught me how to crochet and knit I used to love to knit my Pippa Dawn and Sindy dolls clothes.
It was when I was on maternity leave that I stumbled across Create and Craft, they were demonstrating iris folding which I found interest so continue to watch, then Nancy and Stephanie came on to do a show, it was quite a basic card pack then, printed cards with some decoupage that you stuck on, but it was their enthusiasm and laughter that kept me watching and I thought I’ll give that a go,
I’ve never looked back, I love all sorts of crafting but mainly papercraft, I love playing with inks and stamps, always amazes me how one stamp can create so many different effects, I love die cutting I still have the first original tattered lace dies that Stephanie bought out,
When I see my cards on TV, I get such a huge buzz from it, still pinch myself every now and then, as I find it hard to believe that the show that got me really into crafting I’m now on their design team.
Hi my name is Susan McLaren, live in Fife, with my husband and 2 dogs.

Since then I have made samples with tattered lace and duo dies, my craft studio and paper kits. I’m enjoying being on the team and getting to work with a variety of materials mainly rare earth products.
